Day 7 of 365: Dominican food and wildflowers
My neighbor's mother is visiting from the Dominican Republic. She'll be here for two more months, and then we won't see her again until next year. Every few days she brings me over a huge plate of food-- for lunch, she says. Look what she brought today! It could feed two or three people, I think! There's rice, beans with bacon, sweet potato with cinnamon, a chicken leg AND breast, and a corn & spinach casserole. And all of it is really, really good. I'm not nearly as good a cook as she is, so I reciprocate by bringing over vegetables from my garden.
I took a trip downtown for my ride today. I went to the post office to mail some letters and got an iced tea at the coffee shop. On the way home I stopped along the brook that runs through town to take some pictures.
I'm going to identify these flowers as best I can, but if anyone wants to correct me please do! I'm using The Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Wildflowers as my reference.
Above on the right is a Pale Touch-me-not. On the left is Vervain and to the right is Blue Vervain.
The bottom yellow flower is an Evening Primrose. They open in the evening and close around noon. It was around 11am when I took these photos so it was just starting to close up, I think.
I have no idea why these pictures don't show up on the blog the way they do on preview. Hopefully I'll figure it out some day, because it's getting annoying...

That touch me not is something we have here! It is an invasive weed, but we love it cause when the seed pods mature and you touch them, they explode! They are so fun! Kerilou
